Care + Maintenance
Architectural metals are designed to last for decades with minimal maintenance. Learn how to care for Copper, Zinc, Brass/Bronze, and Stainless Steel so your metal products continue to perform beautifully and develop their natural character over time.
Architectural Metal Care + Maintenance
Our products combine functional design with fine craftsmanship. Like any high-quality material used in the home, proper care helps preserve their appearance while allowing the metal to develop its natural character over time.
With the exception of hard-to-reach exterior installations such as chimney caps and awnings, occasional cleaning and oiling are recommended. This helps protect the surface while encouraging a more consistent and natural oxidation process.
For finishes other than Natural Stainless Steel, we recommend cleaning with a microfiber cloth and light soapy water. After cleaning, dry the surface thoroughly to prevent standing moisture.
Once clean, apply a small amount of food-grade mineral oil using a clean microfiber cloth. This helps protect the finish and maintain the richness of the metal surface.
Our Fine Metal Finish Maintenance Kit includes everything needed to properly maintain Brass/Bronze, Copper, Zinc, Steel, and patinated Stainless finishes.
Important: Avoid using harsh chemicals or cleaners on these finishes. Only Natural Stainless Steel should be cleaned with a standard stainless steel cleaner.
For Natural Stainless Steel finishes, we recommend using a stainless steel cleaner and microfiber cloth. Our Natural Stainless Steel Maintenance Kit includes the appropriate materials for maintaining this finish.
When cleaning or oiling a piece, treat the entire surface rather than spot-cleaning. Cleaning the full surface helps the metal oxidize evenly and ensures a more consistent appearance over time.
The video above demonstrates how to clean both Natural Stainless Steel finishes and Fine Metal finishes. Maintenance kits for both finish types are available below.
Natural Patina & Finish Variation
Many architectural metals are considered “living finishes”. Over time, Copper, Zinc, and Brass/Bronze will naturally develop patina as they react to their environment. These changes in color and tone are a normal and desirable characteristic of real metal and contribute to the unique appearance of each piece.
